Coto de Caza is a guard gated private community in Orange County, CA. This master planned community boasts about 4,000 homes with two 18-hole golf courses, tennis and riding stables. The project began in 1968 and was completed in 2003. In April 2008 a new fitness center with state of the art exercise equipment, spa and snack bar was completed.
Coto de Caza is also famous for the television series, Real Housewives of Orange County. High school kids generally attend the two closest schools, Tesoro or Santa Margarita High.
Coto de Caza has lots of walking trails and it is located just outside of the Thomas F. Riley Wilderness Park. The park, open to the general public, is a Wildlife and Plant Sanctuary and is known for its biological diversity. It is known for its oak groves, sycamores, two creeks and is home to mountain lions, bobcats, Mule deer, Red Shoulder hawks and many other species of wildlife. It is nearly 500 acres (2.0 km
2) in size. It features approximately 6 miles (9.7 km) of equestrian, hiking, and biking trails.
